Sumur sub-district became the epicentre of a 6.7-magnitude earthquake at 16.05 WIB on Friday (14 Jan 2022), and the memory of the earthquake in early 2022 is still fresh in Cicih's mind. "Earthquakes often happen here, but I only experienced the ones with a high magnitude earlier this year," Cicih explained. As a result of the earthquake, many houses were damaged, including Cicih's parents' house. "Severe damage, the back of the house almost collapsed".

"The effects of the earthquake were felt for a long time, for many motor boats were damaged at that time. Fishermen are afraid to go out to sea. There is a long-buried trauma," Cicih continued. She understands very well the difficulties of the fishermen to go to the sea, because Cicih's husband is a fisherman.

Every day Cicih is busy looking after the children, the house and her stall, which supplies many daily necessities, from petrol to salted fish, from sanitary towels to powder. In addition, Cicih also processes the fish caught by her husband.

"My husband left at 2pm to check the bagong (a structure for fish farming) in the sea. If it is alongan (much fish caught), then he goes home with the leftover fish from the auction. I have to process the fish so that it does not rot." Normally, the fish caught is processed into salted fish, but recently the income of fishermen has decreased and it is becoming increasingly difficult to get fish. To get fish, Bagong has to be taken further into the middle of the sea.

As a busy housewife with 3 sons, Cicih still had time to take up the position of secretary of the Village Consultative Body (BPD / Badan Permusyawaratan Desa). Through this position, Cicih met Pattiro Banten and YAPPIKA-Action Aid staff who wanted to learn about Taman jaya village.

"At first I was hesitant to participate because I did not know that the programme in our village was open to everyone. But now I am very happy, I have attended all the courses and trainings," Cicih continued.

After the establishment of women's forums in every village in Tamanjaya, women became more aware of their duties and responsibilities and were more open to many business opportunities. For example, the production of salted fish. This type of salted fish is usually sold at Cicih's stall. "Sometimes there are requests from outside the Pandeglang region, for example yesterday there was a request for 20kg of salted fish to Tangerang. In Tamanjaya, salted fish is sometimes exchanged with rice from the neighbouring village, then I also sell the rice."

A respected person in Peundeuy village and Tamanjaya village, Cicih is often the point of contact for survivors of violence against women and children. Most recently, Cicih assisted in a case of sexual violence against children that occurred in Tamanjaya. It involved 2 girls aged 8 and 6 who experienced sexual violence at the hands of their uncles. The case that shocked people in Tamanjaya.

During the long process of case management, the children are the utmost to be protected so that their future is not jeopardised. There are perpetrators who need to be tackled to ensure that a deterrent effect is achieved and that there are no further victims. Under the coordination of Cicih, the Tamanjaya Women's Forum has taken all measures to ensure that this case is dealt with properly.

Polemics occur because the survivors and the perpetrators are from the same extended family; therefore, there are those who want to protect the perpetrators. Cicih has acted according to the standards for dealing with violence against women and children. She is not afraid of threats directed against her.

"Actually, I am also worried, every day my mobile phone rings, especially when there is a threat to report me to the police for defamation. But I am not afraid because the case was handled according to the standards we were taught, there is a legal umbrella and there is evidence of sexual violence, namely the results of the Visum et Repertum and the testimonies of the survivors."

Eventually all the chaos subsided. Help for the survivors went well. Unfortunately, the perpetrators escaped and are now on the wanted list of the law enforcement agencies.

In addition to handling cases of domestic violence and sexual violence against children that have occurred in Tamanjaya, Cicih also runs a savings and credit cooperative called "Berkah Jambu Batu (the Blessing of the Guava)", which is made up of women from Peundeuy village, Cicih's village. This cooperative group is a blessing for members who need money loans. The name Berkah Jambu Batu was inspired by a guava tree that grows in front of the hut where they usually gather, hold trainings

and share information. This tree is always fruitful and every day the fruit is picked by passers-by. This is also where the idea for the name of this cooperative came from.

"Every time I receive training, I usually immediately inform the mothers who are members of the Berkah Jambu Batu group, who always enthusiastically welcome any programme. This guava tree is not only a witness, it also provides food. And I like the philosophy of the guava tree. The tree is tough (strong), many branches make it easy for us to pick the fruits, the leaves are useful for medicine and the fruits bear fruit all year round."
